DBMG Awards Deserving Youth Academic Scholarships

Each year the Diablo Black Men's Group awards Academic Scholarships to deserving youth.

This year, the DBMG 2009 Scholarship Recipients are:

Roderick Kenny

Roderick Kenny, DBMG Scholarship Recipient

Jesse Bethel High School – Class of 2009 – GPA 3.1

College Choice: Arizona State University

DBMG Scholarship Award: $2,500

Roderick plans to attend college and major in field of Business Administration. He will pursue a career in golf, playing competitive golf at the college level and upon graduating from college enter into the PGA tour. As one of seven children and being the second oldest He understands the importance of going to college and pursuing higher education. It is imperative to be a leader for my younger siblings and show them the right things to do. As Roderick matures into a successful young man, he hopes to make an impact in his community by opening facilities and centers that would educate, as well, as demonstrate how fun and resourceful it can be to respect others for their differences. He was an active member of his high school Black Student Union.

Jordan Johnson

Jordan Johnson, DBMG Scholarship Recipient

California High School - Class of 2009 - Las Positas Community College

Jordan plans to attend college and pursue a career in golf, as
well as a degree in business administration. He also has an
interest in becoming a San Ramon Police Officer. Jordan was
the co-captain of the Cal High School golf team. He also has
among his list of honors; he earned a MVP in his junior year,
as well as the most improved golfer from the San Ram Golf
Academy. As a student-athlete he was able to maintain a
competitive GPA throughout his four years in high school.
Jordan is a very responsible young man and worked a number
of jobs, he understands the value of hard work, therefore
understands the value of money earned by from his hard
work.

Armani Stanford-Wyse

Armani Stanford-Wyse, DBMG Scholarship Recipient

Pittsburg High School - Class of 2009 - Arizona State University

Armani's career goal is to become an Engineer. Armani is a
young man with enormous character and a strong sense of
personal responsibility. Although he is a scholar athlete, he
realizes his education would be the key to his success and not
football. Armani come from a single parent home who raised
all of her children to be high achievers. He was a member of
the Student-Athlete Academic Success Program in which he
volunteered significant hours for community service as a
peer-tutor and mentor. Armani exemplifies and epitomizes the
original mission of interscholastic sports which provides for
education of the body as well as the mind to produce a well
rounded individual.

To promote fellowship among Black men, to help African Americans and other minorities in the Diablo Valley actualize full citizenship, to include liberty, good health, social equality and economic vitality.
